1/48 KI-43-II Hayabusa (Oscar)

This is the Hasegawa 1/48 scale KI-43-II Hayabusa nicknamed by the allies as “Oscar”. Built by Nakajima and used by the Japanese Army Air Force during World War II. I built this back in November 2013. For this build I used the Eduard detail set. Starting with the cockpit I detailed the dash and the side walls.

Next was the engine. I used small gauge wire to make the pushrods then painted the details of the engine.

Once assembled the aircraft was painted with Tamiya paints. The mottled pattern was simulated by using pieces of foam cut into different shapes then lightly dipped into thinned paint and dabbed to match the pattern on the box art.
