This page will be a chronical of how I move my Model Studio from our current house to the new house. We are relocating in a few weeks and I started the packing process of the model studio. I have 103 built models, 117 models waiting to be built, and all the benches, shelves, cabinets, paints, supplies etc that all need to be packed. I will be moving them myself to help reduce damage. You see what it takes to move a full hobby studio and set up a new one by following this page. It is estimated to take six weeks from start to finish.
I am working out on how to minimize the store downtime. Currently the plan will have the is to keep store active but there may be a delay in shipping orders. I will notify customers individually on expected ship dates when an order is placed. The store will run normally until mid-May.
This is what the studio looked like last year:
The start of packing. I filled two of the cabinets with models waiting to be built. I was able to clear most of the models under the one bench.
I spent the week doing more packing. All the “stash” of models were packed. All 117 “stash” models fit in two cabinets and five large boxes. All the pictures are packed along with the glass work surfaces and the 1/48 B-2A fuselage panels. The shelves with the spray paints and supplies were packed.
I packed all the Vallejo paints into the cases and all the other various paints in two more small boxes. All the paint holders have been taken down. I am now packing all the reference books and magazines. I am spreading these into various boxes so the boxes do not weigh too much. These will be moved later by the professional movers.
A friend is letting me use his 20ft trailer to move all the model stuff and is dropping it off this Saturday (tomorrow). I can then pack it slowly and carefully for its trip. Once I figure out how to arrange the boxes in the trailer I will move on to packing the already built models.
I finished packing all the model studio items in boxes. I have not started loading up the bins with the built models yet. I am saving them for last. The trailer has been dropped off. There is a lot of room to hold all the items from the model room. I also worked on most of the stuff I had in the garage for the tools and fishing gear.
This coming week we will be signing the closing documents on the new house. When we return I will then load up the trailer. I purchased two large rolls of bubble wrap which will be taped to the trailer floor where the build model bins will sit on to limit the bumps. I will most likely not have an update next week but the week after I will post photos of the trailer is all packed up.
The current timeline is to be fully moved in to the new house by May 30th. I am hoping to have the model studio set up by end of June. Once the studio is done I can start scheduling the commission builds that have already been requested.
This week we closed on the house! Have all the boxes loaded on to the trailer. I started packing the built models but I ran out of the flat boxes. I ordered more of them and they should be delivered today. We will be taking the trailer down to the new house next Saturday so there will not be an update until we get back here.
I will take some photos of the model studio room at the new house so you can see the “before” photos of the room. I still need to plan out how the studio will be arranged.
It also looks like if you order decals from my store between May 28th thru June 6th the decals sets that were ordered will ship out on Monday June 8th at the latest. I will try to ship them earlier if possible.
