Cutting open panels on aircraft models.

Welcome! Many times detail sets come with accessories that require the modeller to cut open panels to show the details under the panels. This can be difficult to do while trying not to damage the rest of the model or the modellers fingers. Below is a short video of a tutorial on cutting open panels on an aircraft model.  It was filmed and edited by my son Justin who is working on his degree in film and cinematography.

I am building a 1/72 B-17 and I want to cut viewing ports into the body sides to show the areas of the various crew inside. I need some help to do this. Thanks…………………………….Mike

    1. Mike, Are you looking to cut along the panel lines or similar to cut-away style? This tip is for cutting open panels and retaining the panel or if you just want to make a small opening to view the interior. For a cut-away where you can see whole sections of the interior I would draw how you want to do the cut out areas then drill a hole or holes and use a hobby knife to trim the opening to the size of the opening you want.
