Commissioned Work

I have done a few commissioned pieces of work. These are for a personal display or a memorial display. If you are interested in having something built just contact me to discuss your idea. Please note a commission build can be followed along in the build log so you can see the model being built. I have the ability to personalize the models with custom decals. All commission works include a CD of all the photos taken during the build from start to finish and an etched nameplate with any inscription.

NOTE:

Just a quick note – Since I have retired from my career employment we are looking to relocate and downsize our house this spring. There will be no commission builds until after we relocate. I will not schedule any commission builds until June 2026. I will be doing small builds until then. There will be a time that my weekly updates will be minimal (I will post how I moved all my models) and there may be a couple of weeks where decal shipping times may be slightly delayed. I will keep everyone updated. Thank you.

  1. I saw the YF-23 build log. Can you help with some details on that? I’m trying to do the behind the seat stuff like you did. I have no spare photo etch to use for that. What would I get to make look like that? Also, the canister on the port side of the behind the seat area, was that sprue material? On the exhaust heat remover piping, is that solid rods you but in half or sanded down? I’ve tried it a couple of different ways and am unhappy with the look. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Lastly, the exhaust detailing, what paint colors did you use there?

    1. Thank you for your inquiry. For the canaster and the piping I used styrene rods. For the piping I used a candle to soften the rod and bent it slowly. Other items aside from the photo etch are 30 gauge wire. The thinner ones are bare wire and the thicker cables are with the sleeving on the wire. Evergreen Models sells styrene sheets and rods. To replicate the screen around the canister you can use tin foil with holes punched out. For the exhaust paint I used Vallejo Metal in the colors Jet Exhaust, Manifold Grey, and Duraluminum. Take care, dave

My problem I guess is I don’t have any photo etch. Is there anything specific I could buy that I could repurpose into such a thing, or is it better to get thin copper sheets and just cut something by hand? I appreciate your guidance and advice. I got your email, I wish I could get the PAV-1 sooner.. Was hoping to have it for my own retirement. Paul Metz is coming to it, and I wanted to share it with him. He was in Vietnam with my father, and Paul was one of my idols growing up. I was active duty when he was doing the YF-23 flight testing. Good times…

      2. You can use tin foil and/or thin styrene sheets to replicate the areas I used photo etch.
As for my commission schedule, as stated I am unable to do it any sooner than early 2026.
        Take care, Dave

btw, I have a Hobby Boss kit, and a Collect-Aire resin YF-23 kit as well. It’s #96 of the limited edition kits. You might know that the Collect-aire kit can be made with open bay doors, and flaps/slats extended. I sent a separate message just saying I’d like to get the PAV-1 YF-23 commissioned. If you can let me know what kit you think would be best, and your estimate for the build, we could just go from there. That’s outside of the above comment which is my attempt to improve my own build skills with the Hobby-Boss kit. Thank you..

(you can just delete these comments and reply with the email if you like, whatever works easier for you sir..)

    1. Thank you for your inquiry. I replied to the email. Take Care, Dave
